The unit looks good, functions well, is sturdy and a good value for the money. It is not meant to be a replica of an antique, but has the feel and look of a current rendering of a cozy, cottage piece. The fit and finish is very good. The assembly system well thought out and easy to execute for one person in less than an hour.
Sits at the top of our stairs blocking a low bannister on the third floor, but it still allows one to see below and light to filter upstairs. We bought this because we were afraid of someone taking a tumble over that bannister, but it really looks lovely sitting at the top of the stairs, and the bench and coat hooks provide nice storage.
Its cute, but will chip if you stare at it too hard. Weve had it assembled for a while now and theres magically a chip in the wood in a spot that doesnt get touched. Pretty sure the dog didnt do it. All joking aside, its a cute piece, but really does chip very easily. We were super careful putting it together and after we were done noticed a small chip that isnt easily fixable on one of the main pieces. I just leave a coat hanging over that spot so I dont have to look at it.
Im giving this three stars for durability and function ability. As far as the color....I was looking for a deep walnut color as stated. Its not! Its a cherry stain on a light wood. I wish I had gone with black. Unfortunately my father in law already had it together when I got home and I couldnt return it.
