Hello. My son and I put this together in a couple hours. Everything went well. Had to redo a couple places because I put the ends on backwards. The tough part is the plastic pieces that hold the bars in for the top bunk. I had to have a glove on in order to push the plastic pieces in.
I read the reviews before purchasing this item, and decided to get it anyway. Putting it together was quite annoying, as many others have mentioned. I used an x/acto knife to cut the flanges shorter on the 90/some plastic clips, so they would fit appropriately. It was time consuming but made the installation much more pleasant.
The instructions also dont indicate very well which parts are directional when you assemble it. I dont think Ive seen any product to date that does though, so read ahead when putting it together, make sure the holes line up where they should.
All of that being said, the bunk bed is great for the price. And putting it together is a one/time ordeal so it was certainly worth it.
I love this bed, my daughter loves it too she calls it her princess castle. It is sturdy and of good quality, however to put it together too almost four hours it is self explanatory but has too many pieces, that was hard, also the box was very heavy so heavy so that the delivery man didint want to leave it on the firts floor. Overall I am satysfied with my purchase and would recomend it.
I ordered this bed, which ships, with the desk attachment. The bed arrived with small damages, but the desk part had a big gash in it. The boxes have a paper that says to call if theres any damaged pieces, but explained that since I bought the bed from , the manufacturer cant help I have to go to . I spent over an hour on the phone with 3 different representatives over a month ago, and I still dont have the (undamaged) desk that I paid for. Buyer beware!
Update, 3 months later: did eventually send me an entire replacement bed and paid for the shipping to return the broken desk portion. They also gave me a refund because of the endless emails, phone calls, and aggravation, which won back my business. I still cant recommend the product due to the problems we had getting it in one piece, but it is holding up well and finally made things right.
This will be the second of these beds that Ive purchased. Its great for kids. No sharp corners, it wasnt too bad to assemble and its very solid. But the best thing about it (to me) is that I can sit on the bottom bunk and not hit my head (Im 63); great for sitting down and reading bed/time stories. The second one is a replacement for a wooden bunk/bed I purchased for $600 at Ashley furniture. Im giving the old bed (which is about a year old) away to a friend of my wife and Im glad to be rid of it. The kids were constantly hitting their heads, arms and legs on the corners (lots of bruises).
To be perfectly fair, Ive assembled worse products than this. No wait...I havent. This was the most annoying DIY furniture item Ive ever built.
The items are packaged flat, surrounded by thin styrofoam, and in a thin box. The box will be largely destroyed, the foam ends up disintegrated, but at least the parts seem to have made it without bending or denting. I did some of that with a hammer in frustration later though.
There was a great effort to break this up into as many little parts as possible to make the box small. That means youll be doing a lot of fine assembly. The instructions are terrible. I ended up looking at the part numbers (each piece has a number sticker on it) for general reference, then laid everything out until I could figure out by eye which pieces were oriented in which manner.
Once I had figured out the two main end assemblies, the rest starts to go together and you feel like youre making good progress. Then you get to the mattress support rails. There are around 30 or so of them, they slip into a groove on either end into the sides of the frame, and then you have to drive a little plastic piece into the slot over the rail and that locks it in place. Except some of the rails are a little out of round at the end and some of the plugs are too big to fit. I ended up using a pair of offset pliers to force the tabs in after having several shoot across the room and one slip inside the rail. By the way, you cannot get the tabs out of the side rail if you drop one in. So ours will have a little rattle but there were a few extras. Which is good, because youll need them! I broke at least 5/6. Between the pliers and a very small hammer, I was eventually able to install all of the support rails. This portion took me longer than the rest of the assembly.
Once put together, the item has a little end to end jiggle, but its pretty strong. The ladder steps are going to need some foam noodles slipped over them as theyre thin and really hard on the feet.
Only other observations I can make are that in a standard ceilinged room youre going to have just a couple of feet between the top of the mattress and the ceiling. Okay for now with my 7 year old but when hes 12 or 13 I might have to put a pad on the ceiling over his head! Its also completely unlikely that youll be able to remove this bed from the room you build it in without some disassembly. Sadly, to do any kind of significant breakdown, youll have to remove all of those plastic lock tabs and all of the rails and then put them back in. Im pretty sure that would not be possible since youd break most or all of the tabs and there arent enough spares to do a rebuild.
Nice to have more space in his room now though. I bought an intex inflatable sofa that fits right underneath and can be tossed on top to make more room. The bedframe doesnt give a ton of headroom underneath...fine for kids but at close to 6 tall the bottom of the frame is about at chest height for me. You might sneak a small desk under or you could fill it with a big dresser.
A good value. Assembly however is time consuming and the design somewhat complex; definitely not your easy/to/put/together IKEA bed. Those plastic pieces that other reviews complain about are murder to put in and I had to trim about 25% of them to get them to fit. That said, I am very pleased with the finished product. Highly recommended for skilled handypersons that can improvise when the need arises. Four stars for the assembly process.
I bought this bunk bed a little over a year ago because of the price and reviews. I must admit it was a goog buy strong built to last but a little hard to put together gotta read the directions very close. About 3 hours of labor. Kids love it great price everbodys happy!
This bunkbed that I have been researching for a couple of months before purchase had to
satisfy Five major requirements (1) Cost, (2) Durability, (3) ease of installation,
(4) be light and less bulk and (5) ease of portability (taking it apart and rebuilding).
This is for my daughters bedroom and with the small size of the space (approx. 12 x 11)
I did not want a monstrosity of a bunkbed unit that appears to occupy the entire room.
This product is light in appearance and makes a cramped space look spacious.
(1) COST, this product is a great bargain compared with the faux wood composite products
trying to imitate solid constructed wood furniture. I paid $248 for this piece and would
have paid more since other wood bunkbeds ranged from $450 to over $1,000.
(2) DURABILITY, this bed can sustain 250 to 300 pounds and with steel construction I do not
have to worry about the screws stripping and warping the wood weakening the strucutral
integrity of the bed whenthe kids are playing by climbing, swinging and rocking from it.
(3) EASE OF INSTALLATION, the instructions was clear and the only minor hiccup was the
80+ stiles secure attachment clips that was not expressed in the instructions. I put the
entire bed together alone in 4 hours and the stile attachment clips were easily attached
after the fact. Another installation tip, make sure the holes are line up to receive items
correctly or you will be unscrewing items often in your haste to complete the bed.
(4) LIGHTNESS/WEIGHTLESSNESS, the bed is ideal for smaller roomS because if allows air, wind
and sunlight to infiltrate the room making an compact room spacious.
(5) EASE OF PORTABILITY, I am confident due to the steel construction that I can take it
apart if I had to move it into another room or another home withOUT compromising the structure
of the bunkbed.
Final tip is be aware of having ceiling fans in the room with kids on the top bunk, especially
with low ceilings (9/10). This is a great product and we will be making another purchase
next year for our boys room. This is a cant miss!
Hope this helps
We assembled the bunk bed in about three hours. The instructions are only 8 short pages. Each page includes ONE photo but seven or eight different steps in instructions. We had to find an extra too to install the locking snaps for the bars. After 7 or 8 I lost feeling in my poor thumbs. Over all this is a VERY sturdy bunk bed but with 200 locking clips it should be! OK product, a pain to assemble and TERRIBLE instructions.
