The bottom is sturdy with a box spring mattress. We actually managed to fit a full size mattress at the bottom and its used by adults. Now, the top is wiggly and the rail to keep children from falling is not tall enough. We lined up the edges with giant stuffed animals. With just the twin mattress, theres only about an inch of rail left. All parts were accounted for.
We bought 2 of them for our cottagepretty impressed so farI had my oldest son available to help me assemble them, and that made all the difference in the world and we had them both together in a couple hourswould be a different story with just one person!
Update: Had bed together for approximately two weeks and the bottom bunk that my 140lb daughter just sits on during the day with a 6 memory foam mattress has bent ! It is supposed to hold 440lbs! Excuse the cat in the video but I was trying to illustrate the degree of which it is bent with the paper tube rolling. Very infuriating!
I bought this because of the weight limits being higher than most. It is very sturdy, no squeaky bed sounds. The directions could have been a little better, its just pictures and it needs to be put together precisely for all the holes to line up. We used a rubber mallet to gently tap in the that were off a bit, try doing some in the middle and the ends and alternating to help.
This bunkbed is good looking and sturdy. It was a bit challenging to put together only because there are no written directions, only pictures, numbers, and letters. However, my husband and I figured it our over a few days since we were in no rush.
Whew this took a long time for my husband and I to assemble. 2 mathematical people with the proper tools and yet so plan to spend a very long day assembling. Read thoroughly. If you get 1 picture wrong ( since it lacks verbal directions) you will have to take it all apart.
My son loves it! It doesnt feel sturdy like our other wood furniturebut it was cheap so you get what you pay for. However it doesnt feel like it will break so we are ok with that.
It However is very low! So expect your child will hit his head when getting up at night. It is not a normal height bunk!!! My son who is 4 feet (1st grade) woke us up screaming when he banged his head/he banged it into the perpendicular top bunk when he sat up quickly on his full bed. So now he is forced to sleep with a night light.
Just knowyour child wont use this for long (so we are happy we didnt buy the 1200 one. Lol)
To start the bed looks nice. It took a while to build but my 11 year old and I tackled in two days. Problems were it came scratched. There were multiple scratches on the wood. Also the loft bed move slot. Even though it is connected to the steps. It is not super sturdy. It does have a weight limit of 200 or 250 lbs. so no more than one teen boy can be up there hanging out. But hopefully it will last a couple years.
