Instructions are pictographs and not in text so it is important to know that you connect both poles together (the one below and above the shelf you are assembling) before you press in the plastic cone halves that the shelf wedges onto. I was doing it one set of poles at a time only to realize my mistake.
Great item! Bought racks ( 2 ) for the end of my closet. greatly increased storage capacity and cleaned out space in dressers too. Plan on ordering 2 more.
Was a little tricky with the plastic tabs. Slimmer part should face up, the shelf part hides the plastic tabs, completely. Some of the photos show the plastic tabs. Those people should take the plastic tabs off and turn the direction, then the shelf will hide the tabs, thats where the sturdiness comes to play. Its in my closet! Sturdy, stable, etc. Took me about 20 mins to assemble.

I liked the easy assembly and is just what I needed in my bedroom closet. It is not made for heavy objects.
