As long as you follow the directions, it is easy to assemble, though it will take some time. The bottom bunk does not convert easily from desk to bed, but we are happy to leave it as a desk. Honestly, if a friend sleeps over they would be just as comfortable on the floor. That being said, we bought two, and are happy with both. I am very pleased so far
