This bed is simple to put together, you just need a basic hex key (Allen wrench). It is relatively sturdy, although I wouldnt recommend it for a large adult to sleep in on a regular basis- the hollow metal might not hold up to that over the long term. The bed stands at an odd height, which is part of its description, however it is a little too high to throw your leg up into to climb in, but seemingly too short to really NEED to use the steps. We bought a basic foam mattress to use with this frame and once the bed was placed on it the top of the mattress was as high as the tallest rails on the sides, which is not recommended if you plan to have small kids use this bed as they could roll out. I recommend using a thin mattress, or ordering additional equipment to keep little ones from rolling out in their sleep. The powder-coating was clean and even and the shelves are a nice touch for storage. Would recommend this to others.
