We got two of these for my fiances sons who were 5 and 7 when we bought these.
1. These were pretty annoying to put together / at one point we realized that we had put something on backwards and had to undo a bunch of pieces in order to backtrack and reassemble it.
2. Theyre a little rickety / we thoroughly tightened all of the pieces but yet the beds still squeak when they climb up into them and when they move around in them. At first I was thought the noise they made would drive me nuts but now I think Ive gotten used to it and dont notice it as much anymore.
3. As other people have noted, the ladder hurts your feet when you climb up it.
4. Theres no entrance from the ladder into the bed / you have to climb over the railing to get in and out. You can see this in the picture of the product but for some reason it didnt register with me before we bought these. Im amed that the kids can get out of the bed okay because every time Ive climbed up there, climbing back down is quite awkward and frankly, a bit scary!
5. These are really tall beds. We didnt want mini loft beds because we want the kids to be able to sit at the desks underneath comfortably to do their homework, but the result is that when theyre in the beds theyre really close to the ceiling! We adults cant sit up in the beds without hitting the ceiling but they canfor now.
6. Their stuff looks so cluttered underneath these beds because the shelves mean that toys and books are just scattered about on them instead of stashed neatly inside bins. Yes, its obvious that the bed has shelves and not drawers or bins but Im just pointing this out because it kind of took me by surprise how messier these actually make the room look because of those shelves.
Basically I dont recommend these, especially for younger kids. When the 5 year old got up there the first time he seemed scared since it was so high up and I was surprised because he normally likes to climb all over everything, but I shouldnt be surprised / these really are tall beds. He got over it pretty quickly but the first night that we had these I felt like wed made a huge mistakeIm still unsure that they were a good purchase
Not super practical for kids
