As other reviewers have noted the bed is heavy and seemingly well constructed. But the platform on which the mattress rests is made of hollow 5/8 cross bars and one 1/4 center support. The cross bars are welded to the bed frame at only two spots. The 1/4 center support has correspondingly small welds. We bought two beds for our sons a few years ago. They are now 12 and 15; 90 and 135 pounds respectively. Some welds on the cross bars have come undone and one cross bar snapped in one bed. The support system allows too much flexing that overtime will simply fatigue the welds and they give out. This can happen when a kid just tosses and turns during the night. The rest of the bed components are as good as new. Given that we had the same problem with both beds we have, this seems more of a design problem than a single bed defect, in my opinion.
