It was pretty easy to set up alone, although it does take a while if you dont have assistance. Getting the bottom bar holders to stay in is a bit of a challenge so make sure you have pliers/wrenches of some sort to help squeeze them in. Theres a lot and your fingers WILL get tired!
Seems sturdy. I have the 16 on the bottom and the 9 on top and no one has come crashing through. My 16 likes the extra space between the bottom and top bunk this time. No more hitting his head when he sits up!!
I personally am not a fan of the metal (metal looks like a prison bed), but they wanted metal and hopefully this will last a little longer than the wood one we had before.
A pretty good bed!
