The bed is sturdy. The trundle rolls perfectly on our carpet too. Its not attached to the main bed, so you can move it anywhere you want.
The color is dark cherry. The rest of my furniture is espresso. But the bed does not look totally out of place. I wish it came in other colors too.
I would recommend it.
Its perfect for our tiny apartment, we use it as a guest bed.
