My 5 year old son loves having a bunk bed. It was not that difficult to put together. One of the welding parts broke off within a week and Walker Edison mailed us out a new the next day. It's a little rickety but overall it feels very safe. The bottom futon is very easy to convert to couch and vice-versa.
