As pictured, they are sturdy and provide lots of space. My only reason for not submitting 5 stars is that the rungs hurt the feel. We used 3/4" pipe foam (looks like a skinny pool noodle) to wrap around each rung, and then tapped securely with black duct tape for a sleek look. It is working very well and the kids appreciate the comfort on the feet.
