NOTE: as others mentioned, do NOT crank down when putting the legs on the lower table first, they have to be a bit wobbly, otherwise you cannot get them to fit into the holes when attaching the top table. You can tighten any that need it after its all together. We thought the holes had not been drilled all the way through, when it fact, it was fine. We had no problem with chips or scratches, the wood looks nice. The large coffee table has four black dash marks around the edges which are a bit odd and supposedly are intended, but the small end tables did not have that.
Dont try and tighten too far in step one!
