I bought this umbrella for shade on my South Florida, south facing patio. I could not install a retractable awning and after easily erecting my 12 umbrella it did just what I wanted to accomplish for 1/10 the price of an awning. With bumpers and bungies (so it has some give and flexibility) installed on ends of the outer canopy ribs, where they overlap my roofs gutter (which I am sure voids the warranty) it is very sturdy and is easily retractable should the weather dictate. I will add that with out the corners secured it does move a bit in light gusts. With it overlapping my roof it acts more as an awning than an umbrella so we can sit outside under the over sized canopy and enjoy an afternoon or evening shower. Speaking of warrantee my umbrella arrived with one slight bend in a canopy stay which was more cosmetic than structural. They company happily and quickly shipped me a replacement part which appears easily replicable at my leisure. When considering this product I was concerned it would be to big but It is not overpowering and provides a large shaded and breezy area for me and my paramour (laugh) to enjoy. The tilt of the umbrella is adjustable to many fixed points and provides the exact angle I need to accommodate the close quarters with my roof. But if needed I am sure I could easily drill an additional hole in the vertical post for more flexible adjustment. I purchased the water filled base which is not to cumbersome but once I am sure of the exact locating I will install the inground support for a cleaner finish.
