Okay assembly, but not as sturdy as hoped

This desk took me, as a single person (against the advice of the instruction manual, which calls for two people), about three hours to put together. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, but I am, in my head, comparing it to the bed frame I recently assembled, so maybe the fact that its comparable is a bad thing. As for quality, it is as big as Id hoped, but I am a small person, so take that with a grain of salt. It fits my monitor, keyboard, mouse, coffee mug, and trinkets. However, it was not as solid as Id thought. The wood used for this is porous - good for screws, bad for structure. I was afraid it wouldnt support itself while I was building it, but it does I wouldnt tempt fate with anything heavy, however. It was a problem because I was using a somewhat older monitor that was on the heavy side, and eventually, I became so nervous of the creaking the I removed the monitor and placed it on the bed beside me instead. I have a lighter monitor now, but I cant imagine putting a full-size desktop computer on top of this thing.
