Great set, workmanship could be a little more sober (is that the right word? Yes!)
Steel, simplistic design. I ordered this bed with the trundle. The color off white? Not really. It's better, more of a light beige/grey... perfect for boys too. The shipment is 3 boxes... 2 manageable ones for the main bed that need assembly, and the third one is the giant trundle already assembled! There is substantial weight to that trundle and it's on the large side. These are currently holding 2 foam mattresses at 5inches deep each and they fit great (see other review for mattress). The trundle folds down very low, so there is lots of room between the trundle mattress and the bed frame it tucks under (could easily accommodate 10 inch deep mattress I would think, especially as my kids like to crawl into that gap without any discomfort). The negatives for me is that the screw holes for the steel bars that the mattress sits on.... many of those I was able to nut/bolt, but some I was lucky just to get the bar to fit but the holes do not come close to lining up on those wonky ones, meaning I couldn't secure them in place.... so that's a huge problem that I'm just kinda stuck with. The workmanship on those welds just seem super rushed, leaving the pieces crooked (which throws everything else off kilter)The other negative is partly me and partly the trundle... it's not easy to get to come up, especially not without finesse (which I stink at). I didn't notice directions, so I'd just pinch the bar in the center of its length and pull up. That doesn't work very well,so I've since been working one side at a time and also try to tease it a little it the opposite direction first (example, if I want it to come up, I push the bed even lower and then squeeze the bar near one end, and repeat for the other). For these reasons, not a 5 star purchase.
