Simple couch, but thats where its charm shines. The fabric feels thick and pricey, softest velvet Ive ever felt, and not near the cheap velvet I was expecting. Couch was nearly fully assembled, aside from the legs, located under the sofa inside a zippered access point. Its much heavier and sturdy than I had thought it would be, and yes, it is firm, but not uncomfortably. If thats the only sacrifice you make for this $400 sofa, Id say its definitely worth it.
